Developing applications for Netlog
The easiest way to develop for the Netlog platform is with OpenSocial. This is a straightforward API that allows your app to interact with Netlog's 'social' data: the person currently using the app, profile information, friends, posting activities or notifications, etc...
OpenSocial works with just basic HTML and JS, or (optionally) REST calls - these might come in handy if you are integrating your existing web-based app.
We also created some Netlog-specific extentions to OpenSocial. For example, you can:
- Request credits from, or give them to a user.
- Have our war-hardened translation team localise your app for you.
- Fetch a user's photo albums.
In the developer documentation we explain how to work with Netlog's openSocial implementation (note that this includes embedding external applications written in flash or php).
If you want to distribute your app on Netlog, your application will go through a moderation process. You can read more about developing for Netlog in the Application Guidelines (no worries - they're short). After that you might want to get in touch to get your app to our users.
Netlog feeds, widgets and bookmarklets
RSS FeedNetlog syndicates most of its public content through RSS & iCal feeds. See which ones you could use to embed in your web and/or desktop application in the syndication overview.
For website owners it is easy to have your visitors talk about you on Netlog: add one of our social widgets and it takes them just a click to
add a link,
blog or
shout
about your website on Netlog! Also check our tutorial for Making your own widgets.
Bookmark me Bookmarklets are special links that Netlog users can add to their browser's bookmarks. When visiting any website, you can than to link to it, blog or shout about it by clicking this bookmark.
